July 5 – Louvre

First thing today we picked up our “skip the line” tickets to the Louvre...

and then got into a very long security line before we could get inside.

Once inside the first stop was the Mona Lisa…big mob, poor set up as in no lines/stanchions other than to keep people from getting too close.

The architecture was spectacular (as befits a royal palace).

Then we just wandered around to see what we could discover.  And we discovered a wide variety of gorgeous serious art.

Mary and Chloe found some very serious bling.

Chloe spent some time reading about the art in one of the rooms.

Iconic works that we found were the Winged Victory…

and the Venus de Milo…

along with other well-known pieces such as Delacroix’s Liberty Leading the People.

We spent time viewing the many Egyptian artifacts.

After a long morning walking through the palace we decided to have lunch at the Louvre.  Then decided we had had enough art for the day and left.  But of course, a snack was in order so we stopped at nearby Angelina’s for hot chocolate and pastries then went back to the room to rest.

In the evening we headed up to see the Sacre Coeur and had dinner at one of the restaurants that had some guitarists playing.

It was very hot this evening and there was too much street noise to leave the windows open.  So we found some fans in a closet and set them up.  They helped a bit.
