We were up early, had a light breakfast and headed to the Grand Canal to take a water taxi to the train station.
The station was pretty crowded with people waiting to catch trains.
The train to Rome was about 3 ½ hours. Along the way we passed a lot of fields with sunflowers in full bloom.
We took a taxi to our AirBnB which was a private apartment (some clothes in the closet) but seemed to be run by a small boutique hotel next door. We went around the corner for pizza for lunch and then found a small grocery shop to get fruit and juice for breakfast. We decided against cereal as there is a small bakery right down the street. We will try Italian pastries for breakfast.
Rome is as hot and humid as Venice.
We have a tour this evening, so walked to the meeting point.
This evening we caught a walking tour for families covering some nearby highlights. One of the tasks set for the children was to find local Madonnellas, small Madonnas of varying sizes and styles, that are scattered round Rome. They provide “safe places” in the city – they were lit at night and there were a lot of them.
During the tour walked by many churches and we stopped for pizza at a local institution (been around since 1824). Besides pizza it was a market and bakery with very yummy looking confections and breads.
This cute little electric car for one was parked nearby.
We stopped for a while at the Piazza Navona, a beautiful plaza built over what used to be a Roman plaza/circus.
We ended at the Trevi Fountain…along with what appeared to be thousands of other tourists.
It was a very good tour and we all enjoyed it very much.
We stayed at the fountain for a couple of hours, enjoying the fountain and the crowds.
The fountain is particularly pretty at night when it is well lit.

On the way back to the room, we looked in a wooden toy shop with a wall of wooden clocks:
and a full size motorcycle carved from wood.
And a tricycle for Pinocchio.
